I took my dad for father's day I got the short rib he got the burger and we shared. I think overall the burger was better the short rib was good but needed a little bit more butter or salt. Very cute ambiance

We actually drove an hour to New Hope so we could stock up on our favorite soap from Eight Hands Farm Merch. While there we decided to get a bite to eat somewhere and was luckily enough to get a table at The Salt House! It was our first time there but it won't be our last! My husband and I sat at a little table upstairs. If going again, I'd call ahead and ask for the table on the first floor. Or maybe go back in the fall and sit outside. Anyway, we shared the Brussel sprouts (sauce in the side b/c it was spicy). They were delicious! My husband had the celery and leek salad and added salmon, I had the beet salad and the short rib. Everything was very good. I've been to New Hope several times and I never knew this place was here! We'll be back for sure!! BTW, the table next to us got the burger and fries and it looked amazing. Also, our waitress was lovely.

What a unique spot. Ambience and music was on point. And the food was quite excellent. Something as simple as the bread being put on the fire, you could taste the natural smoke and char on the bread. The only thing, which wasn't negative about the food or service, but there was only one person serving that day. It was of course, Juneteenth, and the only server was African American. He was running up and down the stairs to the bar, kitchen, and outside patio. The busser was also a helpful Hispanic man, but it felt wrong that they had them working so hard that day and basically alone. Maybe people had called out, not sure, but we tipped them well. Also, there was also something super oily or soapy on the stairs. I nearly fell, so use caution. But, I still would recommend the place, just was not exactly what I was expecting. 5 stars for the ambience/area, 5 stars for the teamwork, and 5 stars for the meal.

The Salt House has been one of my favorite Lambertville/New Hope establishments for years. It's a little off the main thoroughfare in downtown New Hope (so it's not quite as chaotic as some of the nearby areas, but still has very decent people watching if you're outside), and the interior is exactly what you'd expect from a converted 1751 salt house - personality oozing out of its ye olde wooden pores. I've had a solid handful of great experiences here, which is why it was disappointing that this was only pretty good. In a roundabout way, it's actually a compliment overall. I came here with my top tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality this past Saturday for a lunchtime break from our Stockton/Lambertville/New Hope hike, which I heartily recommend to anyone with working hindpaws. It was GORGEOUS out so the only question was whether Salt House was open to accommodate a meal that clearly needed to be enjoyed in their patio. (They sometimes have very weird hours and don't have a normal website - I've definitely wandered over here during standard business hours to see it not open and it being frankly unclear if the restaurant had shut down permanently. A wave of emotions every time.) We were warmly greeted by the hostess and had our pick of quite a few seating options; my chum chose one right on the edge close to the Ferry St. side, and we made ourselves comfortable. I was thrilled to see my old cocktail chum What's the Buzz still on the menu (bourbon and honey for the win), which really hit the spot. Perfect blend of tastes, and rivals one of my all-time favorites, the Gold Rush at The Vault in Sedona, AZ. However, the second one wasn't mixed at all, which I discovered when my straw sucked up nothing but straight-up bourbon. A real unforced error in my book, all the more egregious because the template is there for a fantastic beverage. A highlight? The honey/goat cheese crostini is also still on the menu, which is a phenomenal app. Huge recommend. It hits every spectrum of the palate and I don't mind the inevitable stickiness on the paws afterwards. Perfect way to start a meal. The entree section always looks good to me - frankly, any menu featuring wild boar is probably going to be okay in my book. At the very last minute, I switched from the wild boar pasta dish to the braised short ribs on the recommendation of our server, which was honestly a mistake. The ribs were good - tender but not quite as flavorful as I would have expected. And the garlic mashed were a big swing and miss - they were drowned out in a watery, greasy mess, and a few chunks weren't even mashed. That was by far the low point of the meal and the loss of the wild boar haunted the rest of my waking hours. My chum was underwhelmed with her scallops, mostly due to their miniscule size, but did say that the polenta was very good. The service was off the charts exceptional though, which really redeemed this experience for me overall. It's always really good but this particular time was an all-timer. The hostess was SO friendly/accommodating, and it was honestly a treat to keep running into her throughout the meal (when I had to go inside to use the restroom, for instance). I assume somewhere in the world they have hostess classes, and I'm also assuming this woman teaches them. Perfect. Our waiter was also excellent - very engaging and helpful, despite diverting me from the wild boar. He was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and also candid about the age of the scallops (he admitted he wasn't entirely sure how long they'd been at the restaurant since he hadn't worked since Wednesday, but sometime between then and our meal, which was apparently acceptable to my dining companion). Like every tourist trap, the New Hope restaurant scene is super uneven. This is one of the better ones though when it's open.

On a whim, my folks and I stopped here for lunch today and, for the most part, we enjoyed ourselves. We ate outside on the patio, which would have been lovely had a tractor trailer not idled on the adjacent road for 15-20 minutes. (Of course, the restaurant couldn't help that--it just made for an extremely loud lunch.) The service was quick and efficient; our orders were taken right away, our food came out soon after, water was refilled frequently, and the check was ready as we finished eating. The area I was a bit disappointed with was the food. My parents ordered crab cake sandwiches with friends and enjoyed them. They liked the slaw, aioli, and the toasted bun. They also said the crab cakes contained a lot of crab, not much filler. The crab cakes are fried, not broiled, so be aware if you order these. I ordered the grilled wedge salad. I really wanted to like this, but the salad was absolutely drowned in bleu cheese dressing; there had to have been about a half-cup or more of dressing on the lettuce. It overpowered the rest of the flavors: grilled iceberg, tomatoes, and bacon. There was a generous amount of cheese in the dressing, I'll give them that. But the dressing was so out of balance that it really did a disservice to the whole dish. I would not recommend this salad. Despite this disappointing platter, I would visit again and try something else, as other meals and cocktails I saw delivered around us looked quite good.

EVERYTHING, the folks, the food, the ambience, stopped in for lunch on a snowy day, it was great we went back for dinner!

My fiancé and I came to new hope for a valentines get away and we made a reservation at house two weeks ahead of time and got the earliest which was 830. So we had an entree elsewhere and came for apps and cocktails. I had an old fashioned and an espresso martini my fiancé had some tequila cocktail which was also very good. We had duck meatballs and some oysters both were delicious! The vibe was dark and cozy perfect for a date and the seats for our table was a couch so we were able to cuddle close. Our server was Braxton and he was amazing such a great personality and he took excellent care of us. We couldn't have been happier!

We've made many trips to New Hope but never noticed nor knew about Salt House until I found it through a Yelp search looking for a place for a nice lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant is just off the main drag on a tiny side street by the river. The restaurant is in a historic building built in 1751. Reservations are recommended as the restaurant is quite small and only one room on the main floor can accommodate a party of 6. We sat on the main floor next to a fireplace. It was cozy and relaxing and quite rustic. The small bar was right next to us and filled up quickly. The bathroom is tiny and down a dark narrow flight of stairs so definitely not handicap accessible. We ordered cocktails and everyone loved them. The espresso martini was excellent as was the homemade Bloody Mary. We also started with a few apps...mussels, goat cheese baguette, and some of us ordered the bowl of haddock soup. Everything was delicious and the mussels may be some of the best I've ever tasted. Our server was very cool and relaxed and explained the menu and told us about some of his favorite dishes. He also mentioned that Bradley Cooper dined in the restaurant the night before and he had the opportunity to wait on him! For our entrees a few ordered the chicken sandwich and burger based on our server's recommendation. My wife ordered the short rib and it was fabulous. Overall, this is a fantastic restaurant for lunch and we cannot wait to return to try it for dinner!

My husband and I ate here late September to celebrate our anniversary. It was a great location in New Hope and has parking nearby. It's really cool that it is in an old house from the 1700s. They have a lot of outdoor seating which is wonderful in the warmer weather months, as well as a downstairs dining area with a fireplace, bar, and an upstairs dining area, which is where we sat. we had a reservation at 12:30 and pretty much had the upstairs dining area to ourselves. It smelled old and had a lot of character and made for unique dining experience. Our server was nice, and the food was delicious. We split dessert and it was a really nice meal to celebrate our anniversary. I deducted a star because the chair I sat in was very flat and a little uncomfortable, but other than that, I would definitely return. Bathroom is located down a narrow flight of stairs so keep that in mind if those would be a challenge for you. It's an old house after all!

Such a cool historic restaurant to visit. I love that the building is being kept and used. The library lounge is such a vibe. We came here on Saturday afternoon right at 12 and we didn't have to wait for a table. We were seated right away by the friendly hostess. We both ordered the crispy chicken sandwich, and it was fried to perfection. The perfect crunch in each bite and it was topped with a coleslaw and aioli sauce which paired perfectly.
